description - Notes

For this short film, I wanted to explore the dramatic thriller genre and add my own twist to it. Recently, I've been enjoying suspense and horror. For instance, I watched the Scream franchise and loved it.

Basically, when I was brainstorming my script, I thought: "What if I write a story about Filipinos experiencing the serial killer/slasher genre? What will they do? How will they react?"

Paranoid out now.

As a dramatic thriller, "Paranoid" is a story about three friends and their complicated past. After learning that a serial killer is on the loose, Lynn and her friends are driven by fear and paranoia throughout the night. In essence, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try a new genre – a thriller. For representation and inclusion, I aspire to write stories about my identity, and this encouraged me to cast my closest friends and family. The message in “Paranoid” conveys that not everyone is as reliable as they seem, and people should trust their gut instinct. Since my film follows a suspenseful storyline, my goal was to use lighting, sound, camera angles/movements, and editing techniques to my advantage. By illustrating a psychologically dark narrative, I aim to evoke mystery, paranoia, tension, and fear into the audience.
