During high school, I was in a relationship with a girl for more than a year, and we decided to mutually break it off before Christmas of 2020. Although we ended on good terms, I was heartbroken when we separated, and it took me awhile to heal. Growing up as a queer Filipina, it was difficult to explore my sexuality due to limited resources and representation. Notably, media and entertainment industries are known for romanticizing love, which disregards the hardships relationships endure. With that, Lost & Found was adapted for the portrayal of “women loving women” or in this case “women losing women” (WLW) along with the trials and tribulations of relationships.

description - Notes
Lost & Found is a six-part video story of queer love and heartbreak based on my experience when I was 16. It is a story-based game in Twine, where players are encouraged to explore a non-linear storyline of the six stages of heartbreak. Guided by my experiences, I recreated each stage of grief – depression, denial, bargaining, anger, remembering, and acceptance – through audio, visuals, and animation in a video format. Lost & Found centers queer love and heartbreak at the forefront of a digital story game. By illustrating the six stages of grief, it challenges heterosexism and heteronormativity within media, while also promoting queer representation through an interactive, non-linear experience. The queer interactive story is based on my high school relationship when I was 16. For context, I met a girl from mutual friends, and we did not get close until sophomore year. After talking for a couple months, I started developing feelings for her but had no intention of pursuing it since her sexuality was undetermined. Eventually, we confessed our feelings, and we were in a relationship in the summer of 2019. After a year together, we decided to mutually break up. Thus, Lost & Found was made to tell and illustrate my healing journey as I cope through a difficult breakup. This experience played an important part in my growth and identity. As I was afraid to share a vulnerable part of my life, I felt it was time for the final goodbye.
